Ina Mae Gaskin
And of course, Robin Lim
Powerful women.
Never had the need been greater. Today is the 85 birthday of InaMae Gaskin, a pioneer, teacher, advocate of women who choose to control their own experience of childbirth. The Farm, a intermingled community in the hills of Tennessee, was the epicenter of reclaiming childbirth.
From those hills, the message spread, along with workshops, books and public speaking, eventually reaching a young Robin Lim, now internationally known for her work in Bali, training midwives and birth keepers from across the globe.
Ina Mae's book was by my side as I attended the first of 685 births in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Eventually, I also trained midwives who spread throughout the US.
At a later date, I will share stories of the amazing women who allowed me to attend and support them as they claimed their power to bring forth the next generation.
Happy Birthday, Ina.
